A bronze statue of Captain James Cook looks out over Cook Inlet from a wooden platform at the end of L Street, a duplicate of the Whitby, England original by Sir John Tweed. British Petroleum donated it for the 1976 American Bicentennial. A 2023 sign added beside it gives the Dena'ina names for the land Cook was 'discovering', so the story on the plinth is now two-sided rather than one.
Alaska Veterans Memorial

Five 20-foot concrete panels, one each for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, stand in a semicircle at Byers Lake with Denali often visible behind them on a clear day. Two Territorial Guard sentries carved by George Pratt greet you at the entrance. Built in 1983 and dedicated August 11, 1984, it is one of the best-known war memorials in the state and sits directly on the Parks Highway.

A weathered bronze fisherman, seven feet tall, stands inside a six-sided gazebo whose pillars carry the names of Homer mariners lost at sea, most from the commercial fishing fleet. Sculptor R.T. Wallen made it; the community dedicated it in 1987. It is the gathering point every spring for the Blessing of the Fleet, and one of the most visited stops on the Spit.

A small park at the corner of the Seward Highway and Dairy Hill Lane honors Benny Benson, the 13-year-old orphan at Seward's Jesse Lee Home who designed Alaska's flag in a 1927 territorial contest, beating out roughly 700 other schoolchildren. A boardwalk, a court of flags and a large mock-up of his winning design sit on Seward Lagoon. The memorial park is the dedicated site, a few blocks from the orphanage building itself.

Outside the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory on Tudor Road, a memorial carries the names of Alaska law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, 69 as of the most recent Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony in May.
