Privacy

The short version. Daymingo is a weather and trip planning site. It does not sell anything about you, it does not run ads, and it does not build a profile of you to hand to anyone else. Most of the site works without an account and without you telling us anything.

What the site collects when you are just reading. Daymingo uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people use. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, the analytics script is never loaded at all, so nothing is sent. Analytics also does not run anywhere except daymingo.com itself.

What your own browser keeps. The site remembers a few things on your device so it does not have to ask twice: the hub you looked at last, your recent searches, the town you are starting from, whether you like rows compact or detailed, and anything you have saved. That information stays on your device. It is not sent anywhere unless you sign in and ask for it to sync.

What happens if you sign in. Signing in uses your Google account. Google tells us your email address and a user id, and nothing else. We use that to keep your saved places and your settings in step across your devices. You can delete all of it from your account page, and when you do it is removed rather than hidden.

If you write to us. The contact form stores your message so we can answer it, along with your email address if you give one. To stop the form being abused we keep a scrambled, one way version of your network address for a short time, which counts messages without identifying you.

Who else is involved. The site runs on Vercel, its database is Supabase, sign in is Google, analytics is Google, and replies to the contact form are sent through an email provider. The weather, road, river, aurora and map data comes from public sources including Open-Meteo, the National Weather Service, the US Geological Survey, Alaska 511, NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center and OpenStreetMap. Nothing about you is sent to any of those data sources. Asking them for a forecast does not tell them who asked.

Children. The site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes. If this page changes in a way that matters, the change will be dated here rather than made quietly.

Getting in touch, or getting your data removed. Use the contact page. If you have an account, the delete button on your account page clears this device and removes what we hold for you: your saved places, the hikes you have marked done, and your settings. Removing the sign in record itself is done by hand, so ask on the contact page and that goes too. Deleting the account also cancels any aurora alert you are subscribed to. Messages you send through the contact page are not tied to your account, so they stay until they are answered and cleared.
