Kashwitna Lake Wayside

The feel

This is a simple paved pullout on the Parks Highway, with a large paved parking area on the lake side and interpretive signs. It is one of the few named stops on the stretch of highway between Willow and the Talkeetna turnoff. There is a signed public fishing access point, and few amenities beyond that.

The lake covers 161 acres, with a mean depth of 6.1 ft and a maximum depth of 13 ft. It is stocked with rainbow trout, which makes it a spot for shoreline fishing. Most of the shoreline is privately owned, so access stays at the pullout.

• Respect private property: the majority of the lake shoreline is privately owned.
• Bring a rod for rainbow trout, which are stocked as catchable fish.
