Hilltop Ski Area

Anchorage

The feel

Hilltop is Anchorage's small, in-town ski area, set in Far North Bicentennial Park near Chugach State Park. It was established in 1984 and is run by Youth Exploring Adventure, Inc., an Anchorage nonprofit. It has a triple Riblet chairlift, a magic carpet and a platter lift on 30 acres of groomed and lighted terrain.

The hill is mostly gentle: 80% of the terrain is easy, with 10% more difficult and 10% most difficult. There is also a pro level terrain park, and snowmaking covers all trails. The vertical rise is 294 feet.

Mingo says

Watch the temperature, since the area can start making snow if it stays under 26 degrees. Plan a Friday or Saturday trip if you want lighted night skiing, since those days run until 8pm.

Before you go

  • Bring your own snow pants and jacket, since they are not rented or sold here.
