Campbell Creek Trail

The feel

This is a 7.5 mile asphalt greenbelt, paved and relatively level, that follows Campbell Creek from E. Tudor Road and Elmore Road in the north to Dimond Blvd. and Victor Road in the south.

Thousands of chum, pink and sockeye salmon spawn in the creek each year, and rainbow trout and Dolly Varden live there too. Beaver, birds and the occasional moose share the corridor. In summer people float the creek on innertubes, kayaks and paddle boats.

Route and terrain

7.5 miles one way on asphalt, with 469 feet of gain (a 1.2% grade). Rated easy.

Parking

Lots at parks along the route, northeast to southwest: Chuck Albrecht Softball Complex (4781 Elmore Road), Campbell Creek Park (Folker St. and E. 46th Ave.), Waldron Park (Shelikof St. and Chirikof Ct.), Foxtree Park (569 E. Dowling Road), Taku Lake Park (100 E. 76th Ave.) and Emerald Hills Park (2651 W. Dimond Blvd.).

Season and access

May to October. Cross-country skiing and fat-tire biking are popular in winter. The trail is wheelchair accessible.

Before you go

• Pick a park lot along the route as your start; Taku Lake Park is at 100 E. 76th Ave.
• Rent a bike at Trek Bicycle Store Anchorage, 530 East Benson Blvd., or Downtown Bicycle Rental, 333 W. Fourth Ave.
• Bring a fat-tire bike or skis for winter; both are popular on the trail.
