What it is like
Powerline Pass (bike) is a gravel climb of about 11 miles one way into the alpine Chugach, near Anchorage. It is rated intermediate and tops out at a pass of 2310 feet, with sheep and marmots along the way. The route is gravel from end to end, and the season is June to September.
The climb is about 11 miles from Anchorage, in the Anchorage Bowl. For a camp, Powerline Pass Backcountry (Glen Alps), 0.1 miles away, offers free dispersed camping in Chugach State Park from June to September. Flattop Mountain Overlook, 0.2 miles away, gives 360-degree views of the city, inlet and Denali on a clear day. The Middle Fork Loop is a rolling singletrack loop linking Hillside trailheads.
