Kenai NWR Visitor Center
Soldotna
The feel
The visitor center sits on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna, and you find it by the big bronze bull moose statue. The building has a sod roof, solar panels and a soapstone masonry heater. Inside are the interactive "Icefield to Ocean" exhibit hall, wildlife films and ranger programs.
Outside, nearly three miles of trails and boardwalks cross woods and wetlands. The three-quarter mile Keen-Eye Trail has a view of Headquarters Lake, and the 2 mile Centennial Trail runs farther. A 1940s cabin, the Elwell Cabin, is visible from the exhibit hall windows and is open to the public daily.
