Unity Trail (Kenai-Soldotna)
Soldotna
The feel
This is a paved family cruiser that links Soldotna to Kenai, about 9 miles one way and rated Easy. Walkers, bikers, joggers, birders and rollerbladers all share it, and bike lanes on local roads let you stitch together loops.
A detour at Bridge Access Road leads to the Kenai River Flats scenic overlook, which is good for birding. A 20-mile loop starts at the Soldotna Visitor Center and follows Kalifornsky Beach Road, Bridge Access Road, Beaver Loop and Kenai Spur before the paved path along the Sterling Highway brings you back.

Mingo says
Aim for fall, when the changing colors are the draw. Come back on fat tires in winter, since that is when the trail suits fat biking.
Before you go
- Ask the Soldotna Visitor Center, in person or by phone, where to rent a bike.
- Use the bike repair station at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex, which has a tire pump and a tool set.
- Plan the 20-mile loop from the Visitor Center: Kalifornsky Beach Road, right at Bridge Access Road, right at Beaver Loop, right at Kenai Spur, then the Sterling Highway path.
