Homer Spit Trail
Homer
The feel
The Homer Spit Trail is a flat paved cruise in excellent condition, easy and flat as a pancake for most of its length. It runs about 4 miles from the base of the Homer Spit to the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon.
The first mile follows a broad estuary that is great for birding, passing one home built from an old fishing boat and another standing alone on stilts above the mud flats. Past the one-mile mark, fishing boats sit out of the water for repairs. Halfway down the spit you pass blocks of businesses on pilings with boardwalks, coffee shacks and seafood restaurants. Near the lagoon, charter companies clean the daily catch where you can watch, and the Salty Dawg Saloon, built in 1897, has thousands of dollar bills pinned to its walls.
