Tsalteshi / Soldotna paths

Soldotna

The feel

Tsalteshi is a nonprofit-run trail system south of Soldotna, maintained by volunteers and funded by donations and grants. In summer it is open to foot-powered recreation: walking, running, hiking, biking, wildlife watching and berry-picking, with an 18-hole disc golf course on site.

Mountain bikers get 10 km of singletrack of varying difficulty, and the Slikok Multi-Use Trails south of Isaak Road add about 5 km more. Over 25 km are groomed for cross-country skiing in winter, and the Slikok trails are open to fat bikes then.

Mingo says

Ride the singletrack in summer, when the trails are foot-powered and dogs are welcome on a leash. Return in winter for the groomed ski trails, or for fat bikes on the Slikok trails.

Before you go

  • Rent fat bikes or mountain bikes at Beemuns.
  • Skip the Squirrel and Owl loops for parking in winter, since there is none; the Wolverine Trailhead lot is plowed.
  • Pick up a map at a trailhead, or download the PDF from tsalteshi.org and use the Trailforks app.
  • Leave dogs at home if you are heading to the main trail system in winter.
