Baycrest Overlook
Homer
The feel
Baycrest is the overlook at the top of the hill where the Sterling Highway enters Homer, and it is the first view of Kachemak Bay. The view takes in the bay framed by the Kenai Mountains, nearby volcanoes, the Alaska Peninsula and the Homer Spit.
A gazebo holds brochures from the Homer Chamber of Commerce, and a sign near the southern entrance calls Homer the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World, a favorite photo spot.

Mingo says
Stop here on the way in, before you drop into town, to orient yourself. Use the spotting scopes to pick out the Spit.

- Call the Homer parks office at (907) 235-3170 with questions.
- Expect the restroom to be replaced eventually, since the 1997 building is failing.
