Georgeson Botanical Garden

The feel

This University of Alaska Fairbanks garden shows what grows under the Interior's near 24 hour summer daylight, from giant cabbages to Arctic adapted dwarf species. It covers over 8 acres of plant displays and demonstration gardens, and it is part of the university's agricultural research station, so the plantings are working trials as well as scenery.

More than 160 varieties of peonies grow here, most planted for research and variety trials beginning in 2001. The children's garden is popular and has one of the largest hedge mazes in the country.

Open 8 am to 8 pm every day from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

A suggested admission applies per person.

Dogs

Pets are not allowed except service animals.

Kids

The children's garden has one of the largest hedge mazes in the country.

Season and access

Outside those dates the beds are put to rest for the winter, but visitors are welcome and paths are cleared of snow. The garden is at 2180 W Tanana Dr on the UAF campus.

Come between Memorial Day and Labor Day, when the beds are active and the research trials are on show. Make time for the popular children's garden if you visit with kids.
