Alyeska Aerial Tram

Girdwood

The feel

The tram is a seven-minute ride to a viewing deck with panoramic views of mountains, hanging glaciers, streams, spruce and wildlife. The observation deck sits 2,300 feet above sea level. Telescopes are on the deck.

Two cars run on a counterweight system, one going up as the other comes down, each carrying up to 40 passengers. In summer the tram runs at half speed. From the top you can hike, explore and pick berries, and the tram is also the way up to Seven Glaciers Restaurant.

Mingo says

Summer is the season for this ride. The slower half-speed trip gives you more time to look.
