Town Square Park

Anchorage

The feel

Town Square Park is just over two acres in the heart of downtown Anchorage, a mix of plazas, greenspaces and seasonal flower displays. It was created through a citizen-led initiative as an oasis from the urban environment.

The flowers are grown in the municipal greenhouses and planted out in May, and beds greet you at the entrances and sit in front of the stage. They are removed in the fall around first frost. The central plaza, roughly 15,000 square feet, hosts the Live at Five summer concerts, Fur Rondy and the Holiday Tree Lighting. In winter, ice sculptures take over.

What to expect

What it is
A downtown park of plazas, greenspaces and flower beds, with a central plaza and a stage at its east end.
Crowds and best time
Summer is the high-use season, and past summers brought Live After 5 on Thursdays and a Friday Night Market with music, vendors and food.
Parking
The park is at 546 W 5th Avenue, between F and G Streets. Nearby street parking is metered on weekdays and free on Sundays.
Season and access
A renovation was set to close the park for the summer, and the Live After 5 concerts and other events moved across the street to F Street and Sixth Avenue.

Mingo says

Come between May and first frost, when the flower beds are in. Come on New Year's Eve for the Fire and Ice Celebration, which is held here.

Before you go

  • Confirm the park has reopened before you plan a visit, since its renovation was scheduled for the summer.
  • Look for Live After 5 concerts at F Street and Sixth Avenue if the park is still closed.
  • Park on the street after 6 PM or on Sunday, when the meters are free.
