What it is like
Point Woronzof Overlook is Anchorage's sunset spot, with views of Denali and Cook Inlet. Jets roar low overhead, which is part of the show, and the overlook is open year-round. It is a viewpoint rather than a hike, so it suits an evening in the city.
Anchorage is about 2.8 miles from the overlook. Alaska Aviation Museum, on the shore of Lake Hood, tells the bush-plane story for anyone who has wondered how you reach a town with no roads. Lanie Fleischer Chester Creek Trail, 2 miles away, is a paved corridor from Valley of the Moon Park to Goose Lake Park.
Anchorage's sunset spot: Denali, Cook Inlet and jets roaring low overhead. Bring a jacket.
