Anchorage Veterans Memorial
Anchorage
The feel
A statue of a soldier in combat gear, rifle in hand, stands on the Delaney Park Strip at 9th and I. It was dedicated Memorial Day 2001, May 28, and it is the first life sized statue of a soldier in Alaska. Cordova artist Joan Bugbee designed it.
The plaque reads: To those Alaska veterans whose eyes have seen what the protected will never know. The memorial is dedicated to all veterans. The municipality holds its annual Memorial Day ceremony here, with wreaths laid for Alaskans who died in service.
