What it is like
Glen Alps / Flattop Viewpoint is a drive up to a sweeping city and inlet panorama, near Anchorage, at 2120 feet. You can take in the view from the top, or hike on for the full view. The viewpoint is open May to October, so plan around that season, and bring a camera for the wide panorama.
The viewpoint is about 11 miles from Anchorage. Flattop Mountain, 0.1 miles away, is a 3.3 mi out and back with 1350 feet of gain to Anchorage's most-climbed peak. For a bigger route, The Wedge bikes the Powerline flats and scrambles the pointy peak between the Ship and Campbell creek valleys, while Williwaw Peak is a 16-mile epic past Williwaw Lakes to a summit above 5000 feet.
Drive up for a sweeping city-and-inlet panorama, then hike Flattop for the full brag.
