Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Headquarters

The feel

This is the year-round headquarters of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which is held the first Saturday in March each year. Inside you can watch race footage and browse a display room of trophies, photos and over 50 years of race memorabilia, then stop at the Iditarod store.

There is a working kennel where visitors can meet sled dogs. In summer, dog team cart rides stand in for the snow the dogs actually race on. A statue of Balto and other trail monuments stand outside.

Crowds and best time

Open 7 days a week from May 16 to mid September, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Groups of 10 or more are asked to call ahead.

Paved parking.

Fees and passes

Summer admission is $10 per person for ages 12 and older and includes one free sled dog cart ride or $10 off an in-store purchase. Children 12 and under are free, and their cart rides are $10 per ride.

Kids

Children 12 and under receive free admission.

Season and access

Open all year.

Come between May 16 and mid September if you want the cart ride. Rides are weather dependent, so have a plan for the gift shop and display room.

• Drive two miles from the Parks Highway on Knik-Goose Bay Road and turn right on Endeavor St.
• Buy tickets at headquarters on arrival; no reservations or advance purchases are needed.
