Matanuska Glacier Overlook
Glacier View
The feel
The Edge Nature Trail begins at the rest area and takes about 20 minutes to walk through aspen and poplar forest to the glacier viewing platforms. Interpretive signs along the way cover subjects like ice worms, and telescopes at the overlook give a closer view of the ice. The view runs up the valley as it curves deeper into the ice-bound coastal range.
On the way, look for woodland birds and signs of moose browsing on willows. Black bears frequent the area but are not commonly seen. The site provides no access to the glacier itself, which is why it offers some of the safest public viewing in the area.

Walk the trail in early morning or at sunset, when moose are most active. Come in summer, before snow and ice close the site.
