Archangel Valley
Palmer
The feel
Archangel Valley is a glacially carved valley off Hatcher Pass Road, thick with wildflowers, and the gateway to Reed Lakes and the Snowbird Hut. Archangel Road runs about four miles up the valley to the Fern Mine gate, which is private.
The Reed Lakes Trail follows an old roadbed through mining remains, crosses a boulder field and a waterfall, and ends at Upper Reed Lake, just over 4000 feet up. The whole route is above timberline, and the Snowbird Hut, a free first-come hut, is reached from this valley.

Mingo says
Aim for a weekday in summer, because summer weekends crowd the small Reed Lakes lot. In winter the road closes, and the whole length opens to snowmachining.
