Darwin's Theory

Anchorage

The feel

Darwin's Theory is a small downtown dive at 426 G Street, open since 1981, and open seven days a week. The popcorn is free, and the pours are heavy. The room is dark enough in summer and light enough in winter.

The jukebox is non-digital and plays actual records, and the backroom is called the Heavy Petting Zoo. Behind the bar, it is known for a long run of all-female bartenders, and the blurb promises instant regulars. It serves cans and bottles only, with no row of local IPA taps, and the Red Hot shot of cinnamon liquor with hot sauce is the house oddity. It is a place to start your night or end it.
