Skilak Lake

The feel

Skilak Lake is big, cold, deep and glacier-fed. Lake trout hold down deep, and Dolly Varden gather near the inlets. Boat launches at Upper and Lower Skilak sit off the Skilak Lake Loop Road, and campgrounds are on site.

A boat helps reach the deep-water lake trout. Crowds are low. Wind comes up fast, and high winds and unpredictable glacial discharge can make boating dangerous.
