Fuller Lakes (Cooper Landing)

The feel

Two mountain lakes sit above Cooper Landing, and you earn them with a sweaty alpine climb. It is a wild alpine fishery in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, and crowds are low. Lower Fuller holds Arctic grayling of 8-14 in, and upper Fuller holds Dolly Varden of 8-12 in. You can fish with a fly, spin gear or from the bank, and both species are in season in July and August.

A steep 3-mile climb from the Fuller Lakes Trailhead at Mile 57 of the Sterling Highway, with about 1,400 ft of gain. Lower Fuller holds grayling and upper holds Dolly Varden.
