Susitna River personal use dipnet fishery

The feel

This is a dipnet fishery on the lower Susitna River, downstream of the Yentna River confluence, and it is a new fishery as of 2020. The boat ride from Deshka Landing takes about 45 minutes, and most dipnetting is done from a boat. A few sand bars are suitable for bank dipping.

The fishery targets sockeye and coho salmon, and pink and chum salmon are also available.

What to expect

Water and access

Lower Susitna River, a boat ride of about 45 minutes from Deshka Landing. The open area runs between ADF&G regulatory markers about 1 mile downstream from Susitna Station, down to markers near the northern tip of Bell Island and the Alexander Creek cut off. Dipnetting from a boat or from shore is permitted in the open area.

Species and timing

Sockeye and coho are the targets; pink and chum are also available.

Dipnet, mostly from a boat, with a few sand bars suitable for bank dipping.

Open July 10 through July 31, on Wednesdays and Saturdays only.
