Deshka River (Susitna)

The feel

The Deshka is a boat-access king and silver river off the Susitna, and one of the Valley's top salmon producers. You reach it from Deshka Landing or Susitna Landing, then run downriver to the Deshka mouth.

Kings run 12-30 lb in June and July, and silvers run 6-10 lb in August and September. Rainbow trout also live in the river. Crowds are medium.

License and rules

King openings track the sonar escapement and can flip by emergency order. The sustainable escapement goal for kings is 13,000 to 28,000 fish. Verify the rules daily.

Crowds and best time

Medium crowds, with the open window running June to September.

Hazards

King fishing can close in the middle of the run.
