Deshka River king salmon fishery

The feel

This is a king (Chinook) salmon fishery on the lower Susitna drainage, and anglers reach it by jetboat. Most go from Deshka Landing and at times from Susitna Landing. Most fishing occurs in the mouth area of the Deshka River, which is one of the more popular remote Susitna River fisheries.

It is the only wild stock fishery where bait is allowed by regulation. In recent years it has been frequently restricted by inseason management actions.

What to expect

Water and access

Jetboat from Deshka Landing, or at times Susitna Landing. From Deshka Landing, go downstream on the Susitna River four river miles to the mouth of the Deshka River. Most fishing occurs in the mouth area.

Bait is allowed by regulation. A boat is needed to get there.

Regulations may be changed by the Board of Fisheries, by emergency regulation, or by emergency order. Inseason restrictions have been frequent in recent years.
