Finger Lake (Wasilla)

The feel

Finger Lake is a campground lake between Wasilla and Palmer, off Bogard Road, inside Finger Lake State Recreation Site. The site has a campground, a boat launch and a day-use area, and the shore is easy to reach on foot.

The lake is stocked with landlocked salmon and Arctic char, and rainbow trout are also in the water. Motorized boats are allowed, with mufflers required and no-wake zones within 100 feet of shore.

Species and timing

Landlocked salmon, 8-12 in, in June and September. Arctic char, 10-16 in, in February, June and July. Rainbow trout are also present.

The lake is open year round. Motors cannot run from 11 PM to 8 AM, and mufflers are required. Verify current rules.

Medium crowds, with the open window running May to September.

Aim for June, when the salmon and the char are both in season. Ice fishing keeps the lake useful in winter. Reserve a campsite early for summer weekends.

• Reserve a campsite ahead for summer weekends; the campground has 24 sites and a 7-day stay limit.
• Bring your own firewood.
• Run boat motors only between 8 AM and 11 PM, with a muffler fitted.
