Upper Sixmile Lake

The feel

Upper Sixmile Lake is on Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, north of Anchorage, and holds rainbow trout. Access is limited, so a boat or canoe is the best way to fish it.

The road in is Talley Road, a dirt road with a sign that reads "To Lakes". It runs to the point where the road separates the two Sixmile lakes: Upper Sixmile Lake is on the right, to the east, and Lower Sixmile Lake is on the left, to the west. Parking is along the roadway.

Season and access

From the Boniface gate, drive straight onto Vandenberg Ave. for 0.7 mile. Turn right at the stoplight to stay on Vandenberg Ave. and continue 1.9 miles. Turn right onto Talley Road and continue 1.2 miles.

If you plan a July trip, read the special regulations before you leave. At the fork, keep right for Upper Sixmile and left for Lower Sixmile.
