Talkeetna River

Talkeetna

The feel

This is a big clear river at the three-river confluence in Talkeetna. Most fishing is by boat, launched from the public boat launch right at the confluence, and guided jet-boat trips are common. Crowds run low.

The river holds Arctic grayling, rainbow trout, coho and Chinook. Anglers work it with fly gear, spinning gear or from a drift boat. Grayling run 10-16 in and rainbows 12-18 in, while the coho that arrive in August and September are 6-10 lb. The launch is community-built and run by a concessionaire.

Aim for August or September when grayling, rainbows and silvers are all in season together. Grayling and rainbows start in July, and the silvers follow in August.
