Sport Lake (Soldotna)

The feel

Sport Lake is Soldotna's neighborhood stocker, a family trout-and-char option away from the Kenai River combat. It is stocked with catchable rainbow trout, Arctic char and landlocked salmon.

Access is by Sport Lake Road off the Sterling Highway east of Soldotna, with a small boat launch and shore access. Crowds are moderate. In February 2024, about 450 students from the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District ice fished here.

Rainbow trout run 10-14 in and are in season May, June and September. Arctic char run 10-16 in.

May-Sep for fishing. The lake is open year round.

Aim for May, June or September for rainbow trout. Ice fishing is a listed method, so the lake works in winter too.
