Kenai River early - late run King Salmon

The feel

This fishery targets king salmon mainly in the lower Kenai River downstream of the Soldotna highway bridge. It is primarily a boat-based fishery with some limited shore fishing options, and most angler effort is below the Sterling Highway Bridge.

There are currently 6 boat launches and a multitude of shore access sites. The fishery has a large guide presence, which gives anglers who are visiting or do not have their own vessel a way to take part.

Lower Kenai River below Skilak Lake, mostly below the Sterling Highway Bridge. Public boat launches are listed on page 55 of the Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulation Summary booklet.

Early- and late-run king salmon, May to July.

Mostly from a boat, with limited shore fishing. Early-run regulations are conservative, with size and gear limitations.

If you have no boat, book a guide, since the fishery is boat-based and guides are plentiful. Fish between May and July.
