Gwen Lake

The feel

Gwen Lake is a rainbow trout lake near Eagle River, on JBER. The road dead ends at the lake and an undeveloped boat launch. Rowing, paddling and an electric trolling motor are allowed, and gas-powered motors are banned on JBER lakes. Stocking numbers are set from estimated carrying capacity and fishing pressure. The ADF&G Southcentral stocked-waters tables include it as a rainbow trout water.

What to expect

Water and access

Lake with an undeveloped boat launch where the road dead ends. From the Ft. Rich/Arctic Valley gate, continue straight on "D" St. for 2.2 miles, turn right on Otter Lake Road, drive 2.3 miles and continue straight onto Route Bravo. After 1.3 miles turn right on unmarked Gwen Lake Road and veer right at the "Gwen Lake" sign.

A state fishing license and a JBER recreational permit are both required on base.

Leave the gas outboard behind. Oars and paddles are the other ways onto the water.
