Anchor River

The feel

Anchor River at Anchor Point is the most-fished king and steelhead stream on the lower peninsula, and the westernmost road-accessible river in North America. Several state recreation sites along the Old Sterling Highway have bank trails and campgrounds.

Crowds are high. The river is popular and tightly managed, with kings, silvers, steelhead and Dolly Varden in it, and anglers fish with bank, fly and spin methods.

Species and timing

Chinook (king) 10-25 lb in May and June; Coho (silver) 6-10 lb in August and September; Steelhead 24-32 in in September and October. Dolly Varden are also present.

License and rules

King fishing is on set weekends only, and open days can change by emergency order. Steelhead is catch-and-release. Check the day-by-day rules.
