Russian River Falls
The feel
The trail is evenly laid gravel, generously wide, with gentle elevation changes, and it runs through mixed spruce and birch woods. Open areas might offer a view of moose.
At the falls, two decks on the riverside cliffs look over the stairstep pools. In late June thousands of sockeye salmon swarm the pools. Brown and black bears sometimes appear on the river to scoop salmon from the water, and many of the bears here are particularly bold around people.

Mingo says
Time your visit for late June or late July, when the sockeye runs peak. Visit in daylight with company, because these bears have learned to link people with food.
Before you go
- Keep any retained fish within 12 feet of you.
- Do not leave food, garbage or cooking equipment unattended.
- Budget for the $14 per vehicle trailhead parking fee.
