Fireweed Loop

The feel

This is a singletrack loop at Government Peak Recreation Area, winding through paper birch, ferns and fireweed with nice corners and great flow. Moose turn up often, and few other people are on it.

The trail stays in the boreal forest, and in summer the Chugach Range is in bold view around the recreation area. The trails are designated to different sport types, so watch the signs and keep to the sport each trail is meant for.

Mingo says

Plan around the summer hours, when the area is open from 8 AM to 10 PM. Give moose plenty of room when you meet one.

Before you go

  • At mile 7 of the Palmer-Fishhook Road turn left onto Edgerton Parks Road, drive one mile, then turn right on Mountain Trails Drive.
