Wasilla Creek/Rabbit Slough coho salmon fishery

The feel

This is an undeveloped site downstream of the Alaska Railroad bridge, reached by an access road that follows the forested banks of Rabbit Slough for 1/2 mile to its confluence with Wasilla Creek. Most anglers get onto the water by boat at the Rabbit Slough access.

The fishery is for coho (silver) salmon and it is a weekend-only sport fishery, open on Saturdays and Sundays only.

From July 15 to August 15, watercraft on Wasilla Creek are limited to motors of 3 horsepower or less.

Weekend-only sport fishery, closed April 15 to June 14.

Hazards

The access road may be impassible to 2-wheel drive vehicles when wet.

Season and access

Mid July to September. From the Trunk Road exit at milepost 35.5 on the Parks Highway, 6 miles east of downtown Wasilla, follow the frontage road east and south for 2 miles to where it ends.

Plan around the weekend, since Saturdays and Sundays are the only days it is open. Skip the access road after rain if you drive a 2-wheel drive vehicle.
