Ship Creek (downtown Anchorage)

The feel

Ship Creek is a king salmon fishery within sight of downtown Anchorage. You fish from the bank below the dam off Whitney Road, where there is a viewing platform and downtown parking.

It is a hatchery-supported urban fishery with high crowds. At low tide the glacial mud is like wet cement and the flats are dangerous. The fishing hole fills on the incoming tide.
