Paxson Lake BLM Campground Developed Ramp

The feel

This is a large boat launch with a wide, paved concrete ramp on a gentle grade, set in relatively shallow water at the BLM Paxson Lake campground. It is the starting point for floating the main branch of the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River.

A large compacted-gravel lot holds about 70 vehicles and has space for trailers. Wheelchair users can fish from the launch area by a packed-gravel path. In low water, deeper draft boats with props may have trouble launching here.

Plan for the Memorial Day to early September window, and check the water level first. Low water is when props and deeper hulls have trouble on the ramp.

Before you go

• Camping is first come, first served at a fee station; the fee is $15 to $20 per night, with half price for Federal Senior Pass holders.
• Register at the boater registration stand by the ramp.
• Use the bear-proof trash receptacles and food lockers.
