The feel

This is an unimproved launch on the Klutina Lake Road, usable for rafts and power boats at most river levels. The road, also known as the Brenwick-Craig Road, leaves the Richardson Highway just north of the Klutina River Bridge.

Getting here is the hard part. The road is rough, muddy and rutted, with deep holes in the upper sections and large cobble and rock underfoot. Trailering a power boat, especially anything over 18ft, is a challenge but doable.

Species and timing

The Klutina is a major fishery for sockeye and trophy-sized king salmon, with kings sometimes weighing 50 to 90 pounds. Dolly Varden and Arctic grayling are also present.

Season and access

Take the Klutina Lake Road from the Richardson Highway just north of the Klutina River Bridge. Most 4-wheel drive highway vehicles can pass. Expect several hours to reach this site with a trailered boat.
