What it is like
The Springer RV & Campground is a rustic Butte-area retreat off the Old Glenn, with mountain views, near Palmer. It has 34 sites open May to September with full hookups for 30 and 50 amp, plus showers, laundry, WiFi, a dump and fire rings. The sites are reservable, and a fee applies.
Palmer is about 6.8 miles from the campground, so stock up before you go. Matanuska Brewing, 3 miles away, serves a full comfort-food menu on outdoor seating, with live tunes and high chairs for the littles. Bodenburg Butte is a quick stair climb of half a mile over the farm valley, with a 360 degree panorama of the Mat-Su at the top. Rippy Trail is a newer Knik River trail with a 55-ft bridge over Jim Creek and framed views of Pioneer Peak and the glacier.
