Jim Creek Campground

The feel

This is a borough campground in the Butte area of the Matanuska Valley, on the Knik River flats near Palmer. It is ATV and salmon country, and the area is popular for ATVs and dirt bikes.

Twenty-six numbered sites make up the campground, and parking-lot camping is not allowed. Vehicles stay on the designated roadways and within the campsites, and the speed limit is 5 MPH for everything, ATVs and motorcycles included.

What to expect

Layout and setting

26 numbered campsites on the Knik River flats in the Butte area, with fire rings, trail and ATV access, and fishing. Parking-lot camping is not allowed.

Check-in and stay

Check-in is 3 pm and check-out is 11 am. One adult 18 or older registers for the site and occupies it for the first 24 hours. Stays run up to 14 consecutive nights, with 72 hours away between stays and a limit of 45 nights a year.

Parking and rig size

Each site allows two full-sized motor vehicles and one trailer.

Fees and reservations

$35.00 per night per site, paid before you set up. Sites are reserve-only, booked online through Campspot.

Dogs

Pets must be on a leash not exceeding six feet, and owners clean up after them.

Hazards

Fires are allowed only in designated fire rings and must stay under three feet in height. Pallets and fires during red flag warnings are banned. Cross-country travel is prohibited.

Book your site online before you drive out, because this campground is reserve-only. Plan around the quiet hours, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with visitors out by 11:00 PM.
