Nenana River Trail

The feel

The Nenana River Trail runs through forest from the Tsenesdghaas Na' trailhead, past several scenic viewpoints of the Nenana River. A short 0.2 mile walk from the trailhead already opens onto a view of the river. The trail was newly built, with the first section finished in 2023.

Beyond the second overlook, the trail becomes narrower, with steeper grades and uneven surfaces. It ends on a high bluff overlooking the confluence of the Nenana and Yanert rivers. The far end does not connect to another trailhead, so you return the way you came.

Mingo says

Treat the first 0.75 miles to the canyon overlook as the short version of this hike. Past it, plan for slower going.

Before you go

  • Park at the Tsenesdghaas Na' trailhead, where day parking is limited.
  • A guided hike is offered at 1:30 pm, 3.5 miles round trip and 3 to 4 hours.
  • Be prepared to return the way you came, since the far end connects to no other trailhead.
