Wickersham Creek Trail Shelter is a free, walk-up emergency shelter near Fox on the Wickersham Creek Trail. It is an 8x10 ft log structure with a single bunk and a wood stove, built by the Youth Conservation Corps. You reach it on an 11 mi hike from the Wickersham Dome Trailhead at Elliott Highway mile 28, and the shelter sits on the west side of the trail. It is open year-round and first-come, and it cannot be reserved, so do not plan around a booking.
This shelter is about 23 miles from Fox, in the Fairbanks and Interior area. If the single bunk is taken, Summit Trail Shelter, 3.5 miles away, is insulated and can be reserved on recreation.gov up to 30 days out. The Wickersham Dome trailhead, 7.4 miles away, leads to a 3,159 foot summit with views across the rolling hills.
