South Rolly Lake Campground
Wasilla
The feel
South Rolly Lake is the end-of-the-road forest campground inside Nancy Lake State Recreation Area, and it works as the launchpad for the canoe trail. Nancy Lake Parkway runs 6.5 miles southwest off the Parks Highway to reach it, about a 90-minute drive north of Anchorage.
There are 98 campsites, plus 12 picnic sites and a picnic shelter. A small boat launch serves the lake, and canoe rentals are available. Beavers are active in the lakes and ponds throughout the park, and in summer they and the waterfowl are the most noticeable wildlife.
