Little Susitna River Campground

Wasilla

The feel

This City of Houston campground sits beside the Little Susitna River, which starts in Hatcher Pass. It is near milepost 57 on the Parks Highway, just over an hour north of Anchorage, and works as a quiet fishing and canoeing base right off the highway.

Most of the 72 to 78 sites are RV friendly and the rest suit tent camping better. There is a day use area, a large fenced dog park, a pavilion, playgrounds, fire pits and trails to fishing spots. A seasonal camp host is on site through the summer. The river holds trout, Dolly Varden and, during salmon run times, salmon. Across the Parks Highway, the Little Su Day Use Park has a boat launch and a pavilion.

Mingo says

Time a fishing trip for the salmon run, when salmon join the trout and Dolly Varden. Bring a canoe, since the camp works as a base for canoeing the river.
