Nancy Lake State Recreation Site
Wasilla
The feel
This is a small lakeside campground of 30 sites on 36 acres, right at milepost 66.5 on the Parks Highway, about a 90-minute drive north of Anchorage. It is the gateway to Nancy Lake canoe country.
The land around it was scoured by glaciers, and the ice retreated about 9,000 years ago. It left elongated deposits called drumlins and hundreds of lakes and ponds. There is a boat launch, 15 picnic sites and a picnic shelter, and fishing is the main activity besides camping.
