Palmer Hay Flats Overlook, 1.3 miles away, looks over a sprawling wetland refuge alive with waterfowl, moose and Pioneer Peak on the skyline. The Wasilla Creek and Rabbit Slough coho salmon fishery is downstream of the Alaska Railroad bridge and reached mainly by boat. Palmer is about 5.2 miles from the park, and Anchorage North KOA offers full service under Pioneer Peak.
