Commuter Trail
The feel
The Commuter Trail leads out to a perimeter loop around Smith Lake. Smith Lake is one of the best wildlife viewing spots in the area, with geese, ducks, grebes, loons and other waterfowl on the water. Gulls nest in the trees nearby, and red-winged blackbirds and shorebirds work the cattails and rushes.
Expect birdsong, wildflowers and some muddy sections, with soaking spots along the way. The winding trails can be disorienting, so keep your bearings and follow the footpath signs.
