Blueberry Hill

The feel

This is a steep, sometimes slippery climb past the Mile-High saddle to wide views. The route starts on the Mile High Saddle Trail and climbs to a ridge where the Blueberry Hill Trail begins, with some steep inclines and views that open up as you climb. Some sections turn slippery, particularly after rainfall.

In the fall the trail becomes especially popular for blueberry picking. You might spot moose along the way, and the area is good for birding.

Mingo says

Pick fall for the blueberries, when the trail is at its most popular. Choose a day after the ground has dried, since spring brings mud and slush.

Before you go

  • From Eagle River Road just past the Mile 3 marker, turn right on Mile High Road and take the turn going up to the turnout at Beaver Road.
  • Plan on a small lot with room for only a couple of cars.
  • Bring bear spray and layers.
