Ninilchik River

The feel

Ninilchik River is a small coastal stream right off the Sterling Highway, in the Homer Area. It has a spring king fishery and fall silvers, and anglers fish from the bank at the Ninilchik village, the campground and the Sterling Highway bridge.

Crowds are medium. Kings run 10-25 lb and silvers 6-10 lb, and the stream also holds steelhead and Dolly Varden.

Species and timing

Chinook (king) 10-25 lb in May and June; Coho (silver) 6-10 lb in August and September. Steelhead and Dolly Varden are also present.

King fishing is limited to specific open days, with hatchery-supported king openings on set weekends. Confirm the weekend schedule and any emergency orders.
